Large Scale Construction – is a tower ever too tall?

As I have said in my previous posts the construction at the school that I am consulting in is severely lacking and doesn't allow for much differentiation or progression. I am in the process of remedying that but in the mean time one of our parents donated a load of flat pack boxes that were perfect for a bit of large scale work. I have always been bemused by the signs that I see in settings that say construction can only be built to shoulder height – Why? ' 'The Gerbils ' have landed! Not that anyone knew that they were gerbils mind you! Not quite sure what they thought they were – at least no one suggested they were slugs today! They have caused no end of discussion and general giddiness. Parents were brought in to see them at the end of the session and they too were full of discussion and giddiness! Boys and Mark Making!

SO much going on at the moment, almost too much to tell you! Am really pleased with how much the environment is encouraging mark making, especially with the boys. Now that the children who have been in the longest are really feeling comfortable with us and the environment they are beginning to use it in the way I envisaged they might. Lots and lots of play going on in the role play area is including the creation of their own backgrounds.
