Watch this space ! Outdoor provision for creativity.

Me

Have actually got a couple of days off next week, supposedly to finish some writing and catch up on admin. Am hoping to squeeze in at least one lunch out with the gorgeous Mrs B-C.  I need to make the most of her as I have got a run of 6 day weeks coming up and as much as I love my job, I do quite like spending time with my family too!

Have agreed the focus for the final creativity project and this is it:

It is not much to look at at the moment, but we have BIG plans for this little space. The setting is a 3-form entry Primary School with a private Nursery on site. I am primarily working with the Reception staff although, as the Nursery shares the space, I am going to go and do some training with them in my own time outside of the project.

We are going to be looking at one of my favourite outdoor pursuits…den making! Of course, we will be deconstructing our den making and doing it all with a card board box, an elastic band and and old sheet!

Alongside the den making we aregoing to look at giving the current outdoor mark making space a bit of  ' Va  Va. Voom! '  We want to take it ' beyond the whiteboard ' and offer a workshop, painting space and transient art section all using natural materials. We will also add in some large blackboards and log slices etc for mark making.

At the moment the 3 classes go out on a rota (as does the Nursery) and even though Ofsted graded the FS as good, the staff would really like the outdoor provision to be continuous so we are going to throw some of that in for good measure.

The staff are really up for the challenge and have been an absolute pleasure to work with. As with all of the creativity projects, I am really looking forward to getting stuck in!

I will of course post photographs of our progress and if you are at my Creativity conferences on 1st and 2nd March I will tell you more then (along with fairies, deconstructed role play a complete outdoor area overhaul and how to assess and get points 7, 8 and 9 in Creativity on the profile!)

Have a great Monday

Alistair

  1. Hi Alistair,
I am a Foundation Leader in Salford and, alongside my team, have been given the exciting challenge of redesigning our outdoor area! I would welcome any ideas you have as I enjoy reading your blog. Can I possibly be out on a mailing list for your creativity conferences as I would love to attend?
    Many thanks

  2. As we can’t all attend your conferences I hope you will be able to share some of your ideas on here especially how to acheive creativity points!
